Nothing yet...

Sorry folks, nothing new today. Still feeling rather yucky and tired, and just not very coherent. Hopefully, I will post tommorow, otherwise you'll have to wait for next week. I am curious though, what others feel about the Old Testament, as far as it's relevence today. Do you believe everything in it to be literally true? Or is it much of it just made up, as lessons for the early Hebrews? Is it relevent for today? I plan on doing some posts which will deal, in part, with the Old Testament, in the near future. I would love to hear your views on this. All I ask is that you be honest. God bless you today, Ken

Ken,

I totally believe that what the Old Testament has to say is true and has some really interesting pieces of history in it. They went by laws that are no longer valid for gentiles today. In my beliefs as a Christian, I do have faith that Jesus died for all of our sins…so the old laws do not apply to ‘me’…and a lot of others who believe the same. For Jews, they believe that the Old Testament is in fact true and should be a guide for living. That's okay.

There are so many sectors and beliefs of Christianity and other religions that it’s a constant debate on ‘what’s true’ and ‘what’s considered a sin or not’. So that’s what I believe in.

Hope you feel better soon!

I also believe the Old Testament is true. There is much in it that still holds wisdom and direction for today, even if we are not under the laws today.
There as much that was not known at that time regarding health... and the laws that were to be followed then were often for the health and safety of the people. Looking back over what is written in the Old Testament you see that clearly, I think.

Christ died for my sins. He bridges the gap between me and my heavenly Father. He fulfilled the laws of the Old Testament. So, I do not need to follow them any more. That does not mean that I can not benefit from reading the OT often. There is so much there that is and will always be pertinent to our walk and lives today. I can not imagine living only with the NT teaching. The old and new together create the picture of God's plan for our lives.

I agree with deb and pam, especially on the old testament view. When Jesus came, he became my sacrifice, making the old laws unnecessary.

Romans 8:1-9
"1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit."

Galatians 2:19-21
19 For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

But one thing to note is the God of the OT is the exact same God of the NT. He is ever faithful, ever true, ever just and ever merciful. By viewing both sides of the cross, you can get a complete picture of God, well as complete as we humans can get.

I also agree that the O.T. is true. I am THRILLED that Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for me and that I did not have to live in a time of utter transition and sacrifice.

I hope you are finding peace and clarity. The few times I have gone into 'spiritual quest' phase were very difficult and draining on me in every sense, particularly emotionally.

Being totally honest I will also say I struggle with my own perception of God during the O.T. times because it seems like He was ANGRY much of the time. I could just be reading too much KJV...he doesn't sound that way in the more modern translations.
